When Nicky, a mum of two from Belfast, began struggling to breathe and losing strength in her body, she knew something wasn’t right. After months of worsening symptoms and repeated appointments, she was diagnosed in 2022 with multiple myeloma and the rare disease amyloidosis.
“I actually felt the biggest sense of relief when I got that phone call, because I knew then what I had to fight.”
Macmillan supported Nicky throughout her experience. She contacted the Macmillan Support Line for guidance on how to talk to her children about her diagnosis and found friendship and encouragement through Macmillan’s Move More programme.
