When mum of two Pragati found a lump in her breast in 2020, she had no idea how much her life was about to change. Delays in getting a diagnosis meant the cancer had spread to both breasts by the time it was confirmed.
Throughout her treatment, Pragati has received vital care and guidance from the Macmillan Information and Support Centre at Tameside Hospital. The team there helped her face the emotional and practical challenges of cancer.
“When my children found out about my diagnosis, my daughter had a rough time. Tanya at the centre has been so helpful. She's talked to my daughter and tried to tell her what is happening. She's always been there and she still is there for my daughter if she needs any support.”
With their help, Pragati has found new ways to manage the demands of a cancer diagnosis — from relaxation and art therapy sessions to support her wellbeing, providing financial advice. This support has not only eased her worries but also restored her sense of self.
“The makeup sessions that are arranged by the Information Centre really helped. As treatment progresses, your skin gets worse…and that’s where people lose confidence. The makeup sessions help to bring that confidence back and teach you how to take care of yourself.”
