At Macmillan, we do whatever it takes to support people living with cancer.

When Marc was diagnosed with a rare form of thyroid cancer, he was given just two weeks to live. As a former performer, coach, and teacher, his voice was everything—but the only way to save his life was to remove his voice box.

After his procedure, Marc went through 35 rounds of radiotherapy, all while facing months of isolation during the pandemic. It wasn’t until he joined a Macmillan online support group that he found others who offered the encouragement he needed.

“The Horizon Connect group became my anchor every week. I needed to get to Friday to see my Macmillan group—people like me, scared, with no one else to turn to, wanting to say, ‘I’m here, I’m dealing with this too.’”

Marc now volunteers at the Macmillan Horizon Centre, where he runs "Mick’s MOT," a support group for men with cancer, which he set up after a fellow patient and friend he met in the Horizon Connect Group passed away.
